_ Frequently Asked
_ What type of projects do you do?
We do a wide range of projects. A home requires upkeep whether it’s routine maintenance, expanding space for a growing family, renovations, or custom building a new home. No job is too big or too small.
How far do you travel?
We cover the greater Boston area, suburbs west of Boston, south eastern MA and up through the north shore.
How do I begin my project?
With Sequoia Custom Builders Inc., we guide you through every step of the process. Give us a call or you can fill out the contact form online. It’s never too soon to get started. An initial conversation can help get the ball rolling so that we can come up with a realistic timeline. Oftentimes a year in advance is appropriate notice. We can help you at the onset to create a clear sense of what you want and how that fits into your budget. We will come out to assess what needs to be done and formulate the best way to approach it. Multiple options could be available and together we can devise a game plan. Don't be afraid to ask questions – we want you to be satisfied with your end product.
What if I need an electrician, plumber or mason as part of my project?
No need to worry about reputable subcontractors we will bring in our trusted team to complete the work. However, if there is someone specific you would like to use we are happy to work with them.
How do I get an estimate?
We will need to come to your home to assess the job in order give you a thorough estimate. Oftentimes estimates are complimentary, but for a more intricate project a fee will be set. This fee can be rolled into the overall cost of the project when you hire us. Sequoia Custom Builders Inc. is a family business with family values, and that includes respecting your budget. You will find our cost estimates to be competitive in the marketplace.
Do I need to hire an architect?
Not necessarily. Not every project needs an architect. It all depends on the scale of the job. We can design in house or work with your designer or architect. If it requires an architect or engineer and you don't know who to hire, we can recommend someone that will be perfect for your job.
How do I find a good contractor?
It is important for you to do some research. Talk to friends and neighbors that had work done on their homes. Were they satisfied with their completed projects? Make sure that the contractor is licensed and fully insured, that means both liability and workmens comp. Ask for references on the last five jobs and follow up on them: Were they happy with the results? Were the workers respectful and did they leave the job site neat at the end of the day? Did they show up every day? Would you use them again? If the answer is "yes" to all of these questions, you’ve found yourself a good contractor.

What are the benefits of an hourly rate versus a contracted rate?
Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but in general an hourly rate allows us to focus on the quality of the work rather than limiting our time dedicated to completing a job. This way you can be sure that things are being done correctly. By and large an hourly rate is more cost effective for those who value true craftsmanship.
